The Rules of Golf are the guidelines we must use to keep the game fair.
Every four (4) years, the USGA and R&A (Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews) evaluate and revise the Rules of Golf to adapt to the modern golfer - while also keeping the tradition alive - and make the rules easier to understand.
The Rules of Golf are there to help you, and more often than not will help if you just let them. Learning the Rules of Golf can transform your game to new levels.
The Rules of Golf are more accessible now more than ever with the USGA's online resources and mobile App!

What do the USGA and R&A study, specify, modify, and guide in the golf world?
- Rules of Golf
- Rules of Amateur Status
- Equipment Rules
The USGA and R&A have teams of individuals that study the ins and outs of the game around the world. The two entities work together collaboratively to ensure that the Rules are being used and interpretted the same way, while also keeping the best interest of the golfer and courses in mind. They take numerous factors into consideration when making decisions. Doing so allows for a uniform game across the globe, where golfers can play an equitable and fair game regardless of their location under one set of Rules.
