Sullivan Solo Leads After Round 2 of the Metropolitan Amateur
St. Albans, MO - The second half of the second round at the 36th Metropolitan Amateur is finally complete. After yesterday’s delay, the afternoon wave’s start times were pushed to Saturday morning. Players returned with the hopes of putting together a good round to make the cut. Those that had already completed their second round had to await their fate. The morning saw windy conditions and cloudy skies that produced a little mist from time to time.
Due to the schedule change, a decision was made to alter the cut from the low 40 and ties to the low 24 and ties. This choice was determined through the consideration of time constraints and the potential of soggy weather in the afternoon.
Ryan Sullivan of Tapawingo National Golf Club started the day tied for the lead. Sullivan fought through his round to card three bogeys and 4 birdies. With a second round score of one-under par, Sullivan stepped into a solo lead at six-under (-6) par. Tyler Linenbroker of Forest Hills Country Club was one-over par coming into today. An eagle on Hole 2 and 3 birdies helped Linenbroker move up the leaderboard with a total of one-under (-1) par.
Harper Ackermann of the Metropolitan eClub was even par coming into today. Ackermann was able to minimize that damage with five birdies during his round. A second round score of one-over left Ackermann to sit six back of the lead at one-ove (+1) par. Brad Carpenter of Franklin County Country Club was tied for the lead as he started his second round. A few unlucky holes moved Carpenter down the board to sit with Ackermann at one-over (+1) par. Keenan Flemming was one-under at the beginning of the day. With a bogey free front nine, Flemming of the Metropolitan eClub was able to come in at one-over (+1) par. Skip Berkmeyer of The Legends Country Club carded a second round two-over to join the group at one-over (+1).
At the conclusion of Round 2, Ryan Sullivan leads at six-under. Justin Bryant and Conner McCall are in second at five-under, while Jarrett James is behind them at three-under. Harper Ackermann, Keenan Flemming, Brad Carpenter, and Skip Berkmeyer sit at even par.
Once play finished, the cut was made at six-over (+6) par. 33 players survived the cut. All six past champions in the field made the cut. Players were paired into twosomes going off of both Hole 1 and Hole 10 beginning at 3:00pm.
