Youth Programs Begin at Normandie Golf Club

St. Louis, MO – The vision for Normandie Reimagined once discussed in meetings and presentations is now becoming a reality. Programming officially launched at Normandie over the weekend. Through the Metropolitan Golf Foundation’s partnership with First Tee–Greater St. Louis, youth are able to utilize the property for the purpose it was intended, to learn, grow and experience opportunities that will positively impact their futures.

At the first programming sessions, the students were nervous but also eager to be the first youth to play at Normandie. They received instruction, encouragement and mentorship from a First Tee coach. Seeing them play was a special moment and glimpse into the future everyone has been working towards. They will continue to not only learn the game, but also build confidence, relationships, discipline and leadership skills. First Tee will serve 33 students over the next eight weeks at Normandie. Sessions will take place on Monday evenings from 5-6:15 p.m., Tuesday evenings from 5-6:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8-10 a.m.

Along with First Tee, the inaugural class of 14 Normandie Caddies participated in training at Bellerive Country Club on Sunday to become forecaddie spotters. While Normandie is not yet fully operational, Bellerive Country Club, the Western Golf Association and the Evans Scholars Foundation have come together with Normandie Reimagined to create a unique experience for these caddies. They start their caddie careers this week at Bellerive to gain experience, earn income, receive mentorship and accumulate Evans Scholarship loop credits throughout the summer. However, the foundation remains hopeful that limited play at Normandie will begin later this summer, allowing the caddies to gain on-site experience.

“We have a powerful story to tell, and now we have tangible proof of the impact beginning to take shape,” said Walker Hill, the executive director of the Metropolitan Golf Foundation. “Thank you for your leadership, advocacy, and commitment to this mission. This week is a reminder that what we are building together is far bigger than a golf course. We are creating opportunities, changing lives and establishing a lasting asset for North St. Louis County and the entire region.”

Construction activity across the property is continuing to move forward as well and nearly 12 holes are approaching completion. Infrastructure work, drainage improvements, irrigation installation and the practice facility are also in progress. The course is slowly resembling the final vision more and more each week. Still, significant work remains ahead and the foundation must continue raising the funds necessary to construct the clubhouse, youth center and maintenance facility that are critical for the project’s long-term impact.

“We have a number of promising fundraising conversations underway, but now is the time for all of us to lean in and help bring this vision across the finish line for the youth and families of St. Louis,” Hill said.
