Berkmeyer Barrels into the Lead at 34th Metropolitan Senior Amateur
The first man off the blocks today was 2024 Senior Champion, Skip Berkmeyer of The Legends Country Club, and was the man to chase. Berkmeyer started the day with a birdie on the first. After making the turn two-under, he continued to add to his score with three more birdies on the back. Berkmeyer concluded the day four-under (-4) par to set the tone for all of the players behind him.
Four golfers came in at two-over (+2) par. Those golfers were John Moore of Spring Lake Country Club, David Johnson of The Legends Country Club, Buddy Allen of Sugar Creek Golf Course, and Greg Fornoff of Quincy Country Club.
The age divisions closed out the day, playing as a net competition. In the 55-64 division, Marty Schmelzle of the USGA/MetAmateur GC led the way. Schmelzle carded a score of net 70, even (E) par. Kevin Schatz of the Metropolitan eClub and Curt Wooters of Grey Beard Golf Club follow behind at net seven-over (+7) par. In the 65 and over division, Ken Caldwell of the Metropolitan eClub took the lead at net ten-over (+10) par, followed by Bruce Vest of the Metropolitan eClub at net fifteen-over (+15) par.
The Final Round of the Metropolitan Senior Amateur will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday. Skip Berkmeyer, Marty Schmelzle, and Ken Caldwell look to stay on top and come out victorious at the conclusion of the championship.
