Bohme and White Lead 17th Metropolitan Four-Ball
Washington, MO - It was a picture perfect day at Franklin County Country Club for the 17th Metropolitan Four-Ball Championship. Sunny skies and comfortable fall temperatures gave players a perfect day for golf. This year’s competition has three divisions: Open, Senior Open, and Senior Net. Players went off in a shotgun start at 11:00am. The course played to a par 71.
The Open division saw a good showing from a few teams, led by Bryan Bohme and Jason White. The pair carded eight birdies across the round. Three birdies on the front and two on the back for White, coupled with Bohme’s one birdie on the front and two on the back helped push the team to the top of the leaderboard at seven-under (-7) par.
Playing today’s round with them, Ryan Eckelkamp and Tony Gumper were not going to let Bohme and White run away with it. Eckelkamp contributed two birdies on the front. Another birdie from Eckelkamp along with three birdies from Gumper on the back pushed the pair into tight competition with the leaders. Eckelkamp and Gumper ended the day six-under (-6) par and one back on the lead.
The side of Bobby Drummond and AJ Porter were the third partnership to finish under par. On Holes 1 through 10, Drummond provided four birdies for the team. Porter gave two birdies on the back, which got the side to a combined four-under (-4) par. The side of Michael Hornak and Tim Hill sit in fourth at even (E) par. Two sides are tied for fifth at one-over (+1) par.
Competition was hot in the Senior Open division with seven sides finishing under par. Landing on top were David Bremer and Paul Neeman. Four birdies from Neeman and one from Bremer sent the pairing to the top at five-under (-5) par. Sitting in a tie for second at four-under (-4) par are three teams. Those sides are Joseph Malech and Kyle Viehl, Brian Lovett and David Strickland, and Tom Sinak and Patrick Riordan. Solo fifth is held by Skip Berkmeyer and Brian Martin at three-under (-3) par. The side of Buddy Allen and Brian Hall shot two-under (-2) par, while John Moore and David Heckemeyer shot one-under (-1) par.
In the Senior Net division, Terry Souchek and William Wunderlich hold the lead at net seven-under (-7) par. Their closest competition is Bill Slantz and John Schranck at net four-under (-4) par. John Chastain and Tom Ferris fall next in line at net three-under (-3) par. Three sides sit at net two-under (-2) par.
All players will return tomorrow for Round 2. Play will begin at 7:30am. The sides of Bryan Bohme and Jason White, David Bremer and Paul Neeman, and Terry Souchek and William Wunderlich will all look to close the championship out on top.
