
Brennan Takes Solo Lead at the 20th Metropolitan Open Presented by Hogan
Michael Brennan of Leesburg, VA had another solid round today. Brennan was bogey-free on the front nine with four birdies and added another two birdies on the back to finish the day five-under par for the round. This brought Brennan’s total to eleven-under (-11) to once again top the leaderboard. Conner Godsey of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL carded the lowest round of the day. Godsey turned in seven birdies - six on the front nine - to finish the day at six-under par. Combined with his Round 1 score, Godsey moved up the leaderboard into second at ten-under (-10) par. Mac McClear of Hinsdale, IL had back-to-back rounds of five-under par. Six birdies today helped McClear stay in the mix and join Godsey at ten-over (-10) par.
Brett White of Houston, TX also shot a Round 2 score of five-under par. With five birdies and eagle on Hole 18, White shot up the leaderboard to sit tied for fourth at eight-under (-8) par. Drew Doyle of Louisville, KY hung in there today, adding a round of two-under to his total. Doyle had five birdies today and sits with a total of eight-under (-8) par. Blake Wisdom of Lake Geneva, WI is another player who shot a bogey-free front nine today. Five birdies across the round helped Wisdom add three to his first round score to join the others in the tie for fourth with a score of eight-under (-8) par.
Ryan Cole of Glen Allen, VA bettered his first round score. Carding five birdies had Ryan finish four-under for the day. The defending champion sits in solo seventh at seven-under (-7) par and four back of the lead going into the final round. Blake McShea of Wendell, NC shot a bogey-free five-under par today to move up the leaderboard. McShea now sits at six-under (-6) par in a tie for eighth. Ty Celone of Canada improved his score by two strokes today. Celone’s four-under second round moves him into the six-under (-6) par tie for eighth. Rounding out the top ten at five-under (-5) par are Patrick Newcomb of Benton, KY, Carr Vernon of Poplar Bluff, MO, Anthony Ruthey of Port Byron, IL. All three shot rounds under par today to squeeze into the top 10 and sit six back of the lead. Ruthey joined Godsey as the players with the lowest rounds of the day - 66.
The final round will begin at 7:00am in the morning. Michael Brennan continues to lead the pack with Conner Godsey hot on his heels. Ten players are within striking distance behind them with a good round tomorrow.
