Cy Seizes the SIGA Championship
Makanda, IL - The Final Round of the 102nd SIGA Championship at Apple Creek Golf Club was a hot one. With temperatures reaching the low 90s and clear, dry skies, players were trying to stay hydrated and cool while making their way around the course. Coming into the final day, Carver Hall, Mike O’Neill, Mike Castellari, and River Stilley led their respective divisions. The course plays to a par 70.
The junior division led out the day’s play once again. Carver Hall of the SIGA eClub was at the top of the division at seven-over par to start the day. Hall had a few rough holes that left him falling back from the lead. Carson Hagler of the SIGA eClub came into the day in second. Hagler started the day strong with an eagle on the first hole, but would finish with a total of sixteen-over (+16) par to end tied for second. Ayden Larson of Old Hickory Golf Club started the day in fifth. Two birdies on the front nine helped pull Larson up the board, where he would finish tied for second at sixteen-over (+16). Trey Norman of Youth on Course and Apple Creek Golf Club began the day in fourth. After minimizing damage and powering through for thirteen pars, Norman found himself at the top of the leaderboard. Norman became the SIGA Junior Champion at a total of fifteen-over (+15) par.
The super seniors were up next in the lineup. Mike O’Neill of the Metropolitan eClub was sitting comfortably on top at five-over coming into the final round. O’Neill’s round featured a birdie on the front and back to end one-over for the day and bring his total to six-over (+6) par. Second was a battle of the Davids that would end in a draw. David Speicher of Cardinal Creek Golf Course and David Glass of Metropolis Country Club ended the weekend tied for second at seventeen-over (+17) par.
In the senior division, there was some stiff competition. Mike Castellari of Salem Country Club was the leader coming into the day at three-over par. Castellari was determined to finally get his name on the trophy and ward off his competitors. He was able to do so with three birdies across his round and finish with a total of seven-over (+7) par. Tom Portner of Green Hills Golf Club was one back coming into today. Portner matched his first round score of four-over again in the second round to end in second at eight-over (+8) par.
In the men’s division, the Final Round proved to be an eventful one with players moving up and down at the top of the leaderboard. River Stilley of the SIGA eClub was two-under coming into today. Stilley found some trouble mid-round and dropped back from the lead. He ended the weekend four-over (+4) par and in fourth place. Aaron Jones of the SIGA eClub made a jump up the board today. After starting the day at two-over, Jones concluded the championship at three-over (+3) par and in third. Hugo Archer of the SIGA eClub came into today’s round one back of the lead. After opening with a birdie, Archer battled his way around and would ultimately fall just short to end in second at two-over (+2) par. Cy Norman of Apple Creek Golf Club started the day three back of the lead at one-over. A birdie on the last, brought Norman back to even par for the day and placed him on top of the leaderboard at one-over (+1) par to take home the title of 102nd SIGA Champion.
At the conclusion of the 102nd SIGA Championship, Cy Norman, Trey Norman, Mike Castellari, and Mike O’Neill walk away champions.
