Port Leads the 33rd Metropolitan Women's Amateur
Kirkwood, MO - Round 1 of the 33rd Metropolitan Women’s Amateur Championship is in the books. It was a beautiful day with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Play began at 9:00am and concluded by 3:15pm at Greenbriar Hills Country Club. There were three divisions in this championship: Flight A, Flight B, and the Championship Flight. Flights A and B played a net competition while the Championship Flight played scratch.
Flight A kicked off the competition. Ginny Orthwein of St. Louis Country Club tops the leaderboard with a score of net five-over (+5) par. Peggy Shamleffer of Annbriar Golf Course is just a few strokes behind at net seven-Over (+7) par. Julie Derr of Annbriar Golf Course sits in third at net thirteen-over (+13) par.
Flight B followed suit behind Flight A. Kay Tice of the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association leads this flight at net eleven-over (+11) par. Alicia Anderson of the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association is right on her heels at net twelve-over (+12) par. Pam Lenhard of the St. Louis Women’s Golf Association and Erica Ely of Gateway National Golf Links are tied in third at net thirteen-over (+13) par.
The Championship division rounded out the day. The ladies in this group were fighting to finish in a top spot on the leaderboard. Ellen Port of Sunset Country Club kept her name on top throughout the day. Port’s three birdies helped her end the first round on top at three-over (+3) par. Kallie Harrison of Norwood Hills Country Club was able to card two birdies today to help enter the final round just two back at five-over (+5) par. Eva Brown of the Gateway PGA Jr Golf Club sits in third following the day’s round at eight-over (+8) par. Rounding out the top four at ten-over (+10) par are Annabelle Bush of Whitmoor Country Club, Alaina Ervin of UMSL, and Isabella Buckley of WingHaven Country Club.
Play for the second and final round of the Metropolitan Women’s Amateur will begin at 9:00am tomorrow. Ellen Port, Ginny Orthwein, and Kay Tice lead as we enter into the final day.
