Hendrix and Brown Hold Steady at the Metropolitan Junior Amateur

Edwardsville, IL - The second day of the 26th Metropolitan Junior Amateur featured windy conditions and overcast skies. The 13U and 15U divisions played their final round today, while the 19U divisions played the second of three rounds. Following Round 1, Cole Hendrix led the Boys 19U competition at four-under (-4) par and Eva Brown led the Girls 19U division at one-over (+1) par. The 15 and under boys kicked off the day’s play. The defending champion and Round 1 Leader, John DeLuca of Forest Hills Country Club, started off strong with a one-under front nine and held steady until the end. Finishing with a 36 hole score of two-over (+2) par, DeLuca clinched the win and earned his third Metropolitan Junior Amateur division title. Liam Weller of the Metropolitan eClub started the day off with an even par front nine, which was enough to boost him into second place. He was able to just barely hold off his competitors in a tight battle for second place. Weller finished at seven-over (+7) par to be the runner-up. The top five in this division are rounded out by Austin Telle of Sunset Country Club and Henry Gorin of Forest Hills Country Club at eight-over (+8) par, along with Austin Toro of Family Golf and Learning center at eleven-over (+11) par.

The 13 and under boys followed next. Anthony Moore of The Legends Country Club carded a score of one-over par for Round 2. This resulted in a two day total of even (E) par, which was enough for Moore to win the division title. Zander Rutz logged a two-under par round for the day, which included an eagle on Hole 8 and a front nine score of three-under par. Rutz took second place with a score of four-over (+4) par. The top five of the division include Alex Briggs of the Metropolitan eClub at ten-over (+10) par, Kayden Kueper of Carlyle Lake Golf Club at eleven-over (+11) par, and Hunter Brown at twelve-over (+12) par.

Putting himself at five-under (-5) par for the first two days, Hendrix held firm at the top of the leaderboard. Second place is tied between Ben Gelven of Glen Echo Country Club and Hudson Shy of Bogey Hills Country Club. Gelven fired in a gutsy two-under par - today’s lowest round - that included five birdies and one eagle. Shy stayed consistent and carded a score of even par for the day. The pair are four shots back of the lead at one-under (-1) par. Sitting in fourth place on the leaderboard  is last year’s runner up Cole Packingham of WingHaven Country Club with a score of even (E) par through 36 holes. Fifth place sees a tie between Konnor Kueper of Carlyle Lake Golf Club and Trey Roessler of Annbriar Golf Course at four-over (+4) par.

Reese Kite of the Gateway PGA Junior Golf Club kept her spot in second. Despite a tough back nine, Kite is well within striking distance, having a total score of twelve-over (+12) par. The top five is rounded out by Miley Kennard of the SIGA eClub at seventeen-over (+17) par, followed by Ally Suhre of the Gateway PGA Junior Golf Club and Isa Flores of Old Hickory Country Club at  twenty-four-over (+24) par.
