Migdal & Skornia Lead the East Side Amateur

Madison, IL - Round One of the East Side Amteur at Gateway National Golf Links is complete after a beautiful day on the course. The sun was shining with a light breeze blowing, keeping the temperature in the mid-70s. The first group of the day went off bright and early at 6:30am and the last group went off at 12:30pm. 

Following the conclusion of the first round, Joe Migdal of Persimmon Woods Golf Club and Blake Skornia of Algonquin Golf Club sat tied at the top at three-under (-3) par. For Skornia, it was a great day with a bogey-free round and finishing up with a birdie on 18. J. Migdal carded five birdies throughout his round to get to three-under. Thomas Wuennenberg of Tapawingo National Golf Club came in directly behind at two-under (-2) par to sit in solo third, while Andy Hennen of The Legends Country Club holds it down in fourth at one-under (-1) par. Three players sit three back at even (E) par: Ryan Sullivan of Tapawingo National Golf Club, Sean Brennan of Westborough Country Club, and Nick Profancik of the USGA/MetAmateur GC.  

In the senior division, it was a tight race for Round 1. Brian Hall and Paul Neeman, both of Persimmon Woods Golf Club, shot even (E) par to sit atop the leaderboard. Neeman made four birdies including one to close out his round on 18. Hall made three birdies during his round, also ending with one on the 18th. Sitting in third place is last year’s East Side Senior Champion, Buddy Allen of the Metropolitan eClub at one-over (+1) par. Not far behind at two-over (+2) par are Brian Lovett of Bellerive Country Club and David Pfeil of The Legends Country Club.  

With the leaderboard stacked, tomorrow could prove to be anyone’s game. Everyone will bring their A-game to try to walk away with a trophy. Pairings for the morning will begin at 6:30am with the leaders going off last around 12:30pm.
