St. Louis, MO - What started out as a beautiful morning, turned into a long dreary day at Sunset Country Club for the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally Qualifier. 36 players were vying for 1 spot and 2 alternate positions for the Championship. 36 holes are to be played to determine a qualifier. 

Upon arrival, players were greeted with a sunny morning, perfect for play, but stormy weather moved in mid-morning to stop play at 10:45am. At that time only a handful of players had made the turn. The delay lasted four hours. After a short warm-up period, players were back on the course and in motion at 2:55pm.  
With another storm cell on the horizon, players hoped to complete the first round. They marched on for all players to make the turn and start making their way in through the final nine holes. Just as the first groups were coming up their final holes, the second storm cell approached quickly. About three groups were able to complete their rounds before the horns were sounded to immediately stop play once more. Play was stopped around 5:17pm. Not only were we faced with a storm cell that was showing it would be around a while, but also the fact that darkness would begin looming as well once the lightning cleared.  

The decision was made that resuming play today would be improbable given the circumstances. Players were notified and will return tomorrow for the remainder of the two rounds. Play of the first round will resume at 7:30am and the second round will follow after at approximately 9:00am. With play unfinished for the round, there is not a definitive, certified leader at the time, however Audrey Rischer of Columbia, MO is the lowest score in the clubhouse at two-over (+2) par. Still out on the course, the lowest score belongs to Samantha Brown of Westfield, IN at one-under (-1) par.  

Tomorrow, one lucky and resilient woman will be on her way to Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania for the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally Championship.
