2012 US Open Local Qualifying

Barlow Medalist at Fox Run GC With 2-under 69

Zach Barlow (Percy, IL) fired a 2-under round of 69 to earn medalist honors in the 2012 US Open Local Qualifying Tuesday at Fox Run GC. Fox Run had a scorecard yardage of 7102 yards, par 71 for the Local Qualifying; however, 1.5 inches of rain Monday morning made the course play a little longer than the printed yardage.

One shot back at 1-under 70 were Shawn Jasper (Marthasville, MO) and Jack Ehlers (Ballwin, MO) to earn two more of the 5 spots available. At 1-over 72 there were three players, Michael Wellington (St. Louis); Christian Heavens (Fairview Heights, IL) and Nicholas Thompson (Paducah, KY). They would play-off for the final two qualifying spots.

Playing the 466 yard par 4 18th hole, Thompson would birdie and Heavens would par getting up and down from the greenside bunker to advance to Sectional Qualifying. Wellington made a bogey and would be 1st Alternate.

The 2nd Alternate spot would come from a group of golfers at 73. Adam Long (Lake St. Louis) would birdie the par 3 11th to earn that spot.
