Gregson Pulls Away Early to Earn Open Title

Mitchell Gregson started where he left off Friday, and kept it going. Birdieing 3 of his first 6 holes in the final round playing with Scott Langley, Gregson’s 2 shot lead went to 6 and the Championship was all but his. Over 54 holes on the 7120 yard Par 70 Lewis and Clark layout, Gregson made16 birdies to 3 bogeys and the rest pars. Within the 54 holes he had a span of 37 holes between bogeys. Gregson earned a $7,500 paycheck for the victory.

Brandon Holtz, a professional from Bloomington, IL was the runner up at 4-under. This was Holtz’s first visit to St. Albans and the Open.

Four professionals finished in a tie for 3rd at 3-under. Chris Brant, Garret Jones, Justin Bryant and Scott Langley.

Low Amateur for the Championship was Skip Berkmeyer. Playing in the penultimate group with Bob Gaus, Berkmeyer and Gaus would finish tied for 7th with Derek Tolan from Colorado.

A total purse of $27,500 was paid out to the golf professionals making the cut, which ended up at 150 following Round 2. The professional payout can be seen on the leaderboard below next to their names.
