22nd Metropolitan Amateur Championship
Kyle Weldon, 22nd Amateur Champion
Kyle Weldon (Metropolitan GC) captured the 22nd Amateur Championship Saturday by firing a final round 68. The final round began after waiting out a 4 hour and 15 minute weather delay Saturday morning. The delay didn’t seem to effect Weldon. Beginning the Final round tied with Brett Meeske (Meadowbrook CC) and Skip Berkmeyer (Aberdeen GC), Weldon got things going with a birdie at the 2nd hole.
Berkmeyer, 2009 Champion, would finish Runner-Up at 1-under along with Kevin Bell (Bellerive CC). Jeremy Franklin (Gateway National GL) would finish in 4th alone at 4-over. Franklin aced the par 3 17th in Round 2.
Weldon, pictured at left, with the Jim Tom Blair Trophy. He adds his name to the trophy along with Bliss, Holtgrieve, Berkmeyer, Schnurbusch, Estes, Barry and many other St. Louis’s great amateurs.
