2012 US Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifying
Wassmer Medalist at Persimmon Woods GC; 3 Locals Qualify
Kevin Wassmer (Poseyville, IN) shot a 3-under par 67 to earn medalist honors and a spot in the US Mid-Amateur Championship next month. Playing with Wassmer, Skip Berkmeyer was second with a 2-under 68.
Two other St. Louis golfers qualified with rounds of 1-under par 69 on the day. Phil Caravia, who was in the first group out Wednesday morning, and Brian Kennedy earned spots in the US Mid-Amateur at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, IL September 8-13.
The fifth and final spot availble would come from a playoff of four Even par 70s. John O’Donnell (Los Angeles, CA) and the owner of Johnnie-O clothing would emerge after the 2nd hole of the playoff to earn the last spot. Ron Mangold (Pocahontas, AR) would be 1st Alternate and Jason Traeder (O’Fallon, MO) would get the 2nd Alternate spot.
