Johnson Wins Senior Title by 4

johnsonmeyertrophyJeff Johnson captured his first MAGA title today at Sunset Country Club with a stellar 1-under par 71 performance to win by 4 shots over his long time rival Andy Frost.  In fact, results were the exact opposite as last year when Johnson finished runner-up to Frost.  The two are long time friends, growing up at Forest Hills CC together, and competing against one another since their early days at Forest Hills.

Johnson has been the MAGA Senior Player of the Year the last two seasons, but the Senior Amateur title had eluded him. Johnson began the day in  a 3 way tie with Jim Dunn and Scott Edwards, past champions of the Senior Amateur.  Johnson was very steady over the 36 holes of competition, with 3 birdies and an eagle on his card to 3 bogeys for his 1-under par winning total.  The eagle came today on the par 5 10th hole.

Frost, who started the day 2 shots back would shoot a 73 today and finish the 4 shots back of Johnson.  Frost and Johnson are also battling for the 2013 MAGA Senior Player of the Year title, with this victory Johnson extends his lead over Frost with a couple more senior events to go this fall.

In other age divisions there were Low Gross and Low Net winners, they were:

Age 50-59: Randy Gibbs (Low Gross) and Dave Bartholomus (Low Net)
Age 60-64: Jay Mason (Low Gross) and Dwight Rasmussen (Low Net)
Age 65-69: Terry Fairbanks (Low Gross) and Skip Tucker (Low Net)
Age 70 and Over: Michael Mooney (Low Gross) and Joe Terrill (Low Net)
