2014 Amateur to be hosted by Westwood Country Club

The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association is excited to announce that the 2014 Amateur Championship will be conducted July 31 – August 2 at Westwood Country Club.  This will be the club’s second time hosting the region’s most coveted amateur title.

“We are honored to host the 2014 Metropolitan Amateur Championship at Westwood Country Club.  Championship golf has been a very meaningful part of our 105 year tradition – the return of the Met Am is an incredibly exciting way for it to continue.”  — Tony D’Errico, General Manager

2014 will mark 12 years since Westwood CC hosted the Amateur.  Mike Sabo would capture the title in 2002, running away with a 7-shot victory!

Westwood CC has gone through some restoration work since 2002, with putting greens restored back to some original design and resurfacing.

Dr. David Amarnek, Co-Chairman of the Golf Committee, expressed his enthusiasm to bring back the region’s most coveted amateur championship to Westwood Country Club.  “The Board and Club are very excited to have the opportunity to host St. Louis’s most prestigious amateur championship once again!”

Kyle Weldon, pictured at right with the Jim Tom Blair Trophy, became just the 2nd golfer in 23 years to capture back-to-back Amateur titles when he won in August at Persimmon Woods Golf Club.  He joined David Estes as the only repeat champions.

Westwood CC has played host to many USGA Qualifying Rounds over the years, most recently hosting the US Junior Amateur Qualifying in 2012.
