Three Tied Atop at 5-Under in Metropolitan Open
On another fantastic day at The Country Club of St. Albans, three young men find themselves tied atop the leaderboard following Round 2 of the 9th Metropolitan Open. Chris Thompson (Lawrence, KS), Jace Long (Columbia, MO) and amateur Alex Cusumano will lead the field into the final round Saturday.
Thompson, who finished T-2 in 2013, had the low round of the championship thus far with a 5-under 65 Friday. After playing in the 2013 US Open at Merion Golf Club, Thompson commented on the Metropolitan Open, “After playing in 2013, I put this event on my calendar at the beginning of the year. I love this golf course, it is a really good test. You have to hit all kinds of shots, it’s wide enough, but you get penalized with bad shots.”
Jace Long, a Mizzou graduate, went 4 deep today with a 66 including 5 birdies. Long is very happy with his game, “Today was pretty consistent, you have to hit solid and straight…a tough place to get around.” Thompson and Long will be in the final pairing Saturday.
Alex Cusumano shot 3-under on this front 9 today which included an eagle 2 at the par 4 fifth, “a little chip in from just off the green about 25 feet” explained Cusumano. As for playing with a share of the lead, “Tomorrow is going to be a lot of fun, regardless of what happens.”
Saturday’s final round will begin at 7:00am. The lead group of Thompson and Long will begin their round at 10:20am.
