Riordan Leads Way After Day 1 at Westwood

Patrick Riordan (Normandie GC) had an almost flawless round to open the 24th Amateur today at Westwood Country Club.  Riordan had 7 birdies on his card to go with a lone double-bogey on the 9th hole.  “I was kind of rolling until 9, doubled 9, turned the corner and settled down.  Birdied the two par 5s, kept it rolling and birdied 18 to finish.”

2009 champion Skip Berkmeyer (Aberdeen GC) is two back after opening with a 68 Monday.  “68 is a good start, you can always shoot yourself out of a tournament on day one, so it was nice to shoot a good number and get off to a good start.”

Three other golfers turned in red numbers on day 1.  Brendan Bargetzi (Metropolitan GC); Joe Migdal (Aberdeen GC) and Bryan Bohme (Norwood Hills CC) each fired 1-under 70’s to start the championship.

Round 2 begins at 7:30a Friday morning, the field will then be cut to the low 40 scores and ties for the Saturday final round.  Check out all the scores from Thursday on the Plaza Motors Scoreboard.
