US Mid-Amatuer Qualifying: Matthews, Bruce Medal at Annbriar
Tuesday at Annbriar GC, MAGA conducted both men’s and women’s Mid-Amateur qualifying for the 2014 championships. This was a first for St. Louis and MAGA.
After a 1 hour, 15 minute delay to the start of the day due to weather, the ladies led off the day with 7 competitors playing for 2 qualifying spots at the US Women’s Mid-Amateur September 6-11 at Harbour Trees Golf Club in Noblesville, IN. Alisha Matthews came away with the medal, shooting an 81 on the day. Dee Johnson earned the second qualifying spot, one shot back of Matthews at 82.
Sixty-four men were to start the day, playing for 4 spots into the US Mid-Amateur. The 2014 Mid-Am will be played September 6-11 at Saucon Valley Golf Club in Bethlehem, PA. Several good scores were rolling in, but B.W. Bruce fired the low round of the day to earn medalist honors with a 4-under 67. Three tied at 68 for the remaining three spots, Brian Haskell, Andy Roberts and Derek Meinhart will join Bruce at the US Mid-Am.
