Edwards, Hardcastle Advance to US Senior Amateur

It took extra holes Thursday at Glen Echo Country Club, but Scott Edwards and Craig Hardcastle earned the 2 spots to the US Senior Amateur Championship at Big Canyon Country Club next month.  They, along with Jim Dunn, posted 2-over 73s to force a 3 for 2 playoff.

Hardcastle posted his 73 first, early in the preceding.  Edwards was in the middle of the pack when his 73 came in and Dunn was the second to last group on the course, he missed an 8 footer on 18 that would have secured 1 of the 2 available spots.

2014ussenioramhardcastleThe three would begin the playoff on the tough finishing 18th hole at Glen Echo, Edwards would make a par to punch his ticket.  Dunn and Hardcastle would bogey.  Continuing to the 1st hole, both would make par to extend the playoff and back to 18 they went.  Neither would find the green in 2, but Hardcastle executed an excellent pitch to 3 feet.

Dunn would find a tough 3rd shot, left of the left greenside bunker.  A pitch that stayed in the bunker would lead to an unplayable lie and thus Hardcastle would only have to two putt to move on.  Dunn earned 1st alternate and Dee Sanders would earn 2nd alternate, also in a playoff with Ron Eilers at 74.
