U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying Set for Monday at Kokopelli GC

Marion, IL. – U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifying conducted by MAGA is set for this Monday, August 16, at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion, Illinois.

The 40th playing of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will take place September 25-30 at Sankaty Head Golf Club in Siasconset, Massachusetts. Miacomet Golf Course in Nantucket, Massachusetts, will serve as co-host for stroke play.

Nearly 5,000 players from around the world compete for a spot in the championship. Only 264 players will advance to the starting field, with one emerging as a Champion, winning the coveted Robert T. Jones Jr. Memorial Trophy.

64 players will tee it up for two qualifying spots and two alternate positions Monday at Kokopelli.

Sam Migdal comes into the qualifying as the reigning Old Warson Cup winner, having bested the top 16 players from last year’s MAGA Player of the Year standings at Old Warson Country Club this past June in match play. Migdal also made the final round cut at the 31st Metropolitan Amateur hosted by St. Louis Country Club last weekend.

Alex Cusumano joins the field after finishing in a tie for 8th at the 31st Metropolitan Amateur at St. Louis Country Club last weekend. Cusumano also earned the 2nd Alternate position from MAGA’s 2019 U.S. Amateur qualifier at Meadowbrook Country Club.

Other players to watch for include Buddy Allen, Ryan Haxel, and Chad Niezing, all of which will be in the field Monday after making it to the final round at the 31st Metropolitan Amateur last weekend.

First tee times will go off at 7:30 am CT off hole 1.
