Algonquin Golf Club Set to Host Thomas O. Sobbe Cup Finals

Webster Groves, MO – The 2021 Thomas O. Sobbe Cup Final Four is set for this Friday, Sept. 24, at Algonquin Golf Club.
The semifinal matches feature three teams from the St. Louis area and one from Quincy, Illinois. Old Hickory Golf Club No. 2 plays Greenbriar Hills Country Club No. 1 in the first matchup. Spring Lake Country Club No. 2 plays Westborough Country Club No. 1 in the second.
Old Hickory comes in after defeating Quincy Country Club in the Round of 16 and St. Clair Country Club in the quarterfinals. The St. Peters club has been in the Final Four two of the last three years including a runner-up finish in 2019. They also finished runner-up in 2006.
Greenbriar Hills Country Club defeated Old Hickory’s first team in the Round of 16 before besting St. Louis Country Club in the quarterfinals. The Kirkwood club has been in the Final Four three times before (2016, 2017, 2020) with their best finish being runner-up in 2016.
Spring Lake Country Club makes their first appearance in the Final Four this weekend. The second team from Quincy came in as the No. 2 overall seed and is the highest remaining seed remaining. They beat Glen Echo’s first team in the Round of 16 before defeating Whitmoor Country Club in the quarterfinals.
Westborough Country Club’s first team, the defending champions, round out the Final Four after defeating Bellerive in the quarterfinals. The club in Webster Groves will make the short trip down Berry Road to take on Spring Lake Country Club.
The Thomas O. Sobbe Cup is a year-long competition between Member Clubs of MAGA. Teams are comprised of 8 players from each club, 7 amateurs and 1 professional.
Each round, Regular Season and Playoffs, there are 6 matches contested: A Professional Match, 2 Singles Scratch Matches, 1 Singles Handicap Match, 1 Senior Four-Ball Handicap Match and 1 Four-Ball Handicap Match.
The semifinals begin Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. at Algonquin Golf Club.
