Allen prepares defense of Normandie title

Fox Run's Buddy Allen (right) will face a strong field that includes 10 former champions when he tees it up to defend his Normandie Amateur title Saturday at Normandie Golf Club. Among those entered are Skip Berkmeyer, Brian Kennedy, Tom Barry and Scott Thomas as well as three-time Walker Cupper Jim Holtgrieve. Starting times begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, with final round action slated for Sunday.

Rosenfeld, Vasel share Open qualifying medal

Mini-tour players Matthew Rosenfeld (pictured on left) and Kyle Vasel each carded 71s at Gateway National to share the medal Wednesday. They will join four other golfers - St. Louisans John Kelly, John Anderson, Bob Gaus and Ross Millman - in the Sectional Round of Qualifying for the 108th U.S. Open, slated for June 12-15 at Torrey Pines. Each shot 74 to advance. Tour player Trevor Dodds also shot 74, but earned the first alternate spot after he was unavailable for a potential playoff.

Patrick Riordan and Brett Staskewicz each shot 75, with Staskewicz earning the second alternate berth.

The Metropolitan will conduct Sectional qualifying June 2 at Boone Valley Golf Club. click for results complete story

Berkmeyer defends Metropolitan
Match Play title; edges Kennedy, 4 and 2

Skip Berkmeyer successfully defended his 13th Match Play Finalists - Skip Berkmeyer and Brian KennedyMetropolitan Match Play Championship, defeating Persimmon Woods’ Brian Kennedy,
4 and 2, Sunday afternoon at Old Warson Country Club.

After trailing by a hole early in the championship, Berkmeyer assumed control in a four-hole swing midway through the front nine. It helped Berkmeyer to a 4-up lead at the turn. He closed out the match with a downhill, sidehill birdie putt at the par-5 16th. The victory was Berkmeyer's fourth in the 13-year history of the event.
