The Mid-America Junior Cup began in 1999 as an effort to showcase the top juniors from the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association (MAGA) and Central Links Golf's (CLG) - formerly Kansas City Golf Association (KCGA) - respective regions. The event was created to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship between MAGA and CLG. Through play of this event, area kids come together to compete in a Ryder Cup style team competition. Four boys and four girls are selected for the team each year with two boys and two girls being aged 15 and under, and two boys and two girls aged 16 to 18. Matches are played in both Four-Ball and Foursomes formats. In 2018, Sunday Singles matches were added. From 1999 to 2017, only 8 points were able to be won with the teams needing 4.5 points to win or 4 points to retain the Cup. From 2018 to the present, 16 total points are up for grabs with the addition of the singles matches. The teams need 8.5 points to win or 8 points retain the Cup.
