Woods mum on return, but he's getting closer

According to his website, Tiger Woods is feeling stronger, hitting full shots, though not at full power. The report indicated that his recuperation is going well and he has resumed playing the occasional hole with coach Hank Haney.

"As I had hoped, after January 1, I started hitting longer irons and my driver," Woods said Monday in a blog from his website. "I'm not swinging as hard as I can, but I'm working towards that goal."

Woods has not competed since winning the 2008 U.S. Open last June.

As the PGA Tour prepares for its first full field event of the 2009 season, the Sony Open in Hawaii, golf fans are just as anxious to keep apprised of the golfer not currently on tour and any now playing.

While there has been speculation that Woods may be gearing for a defense of the Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Ariz., in February, he has remained mum on a timeline for his return to action.

What is certain, he intends to be ready for the year's first major, the 2009 Masters in April. Any preparatory events leading up to the Masters is known only by Woods.
