Lundgren tops strong East Side Amateur

field by one stroke, fires 8-under 136

Fox Run's Darren Lundgren fired a final-round 3-under 69 to win the
5th Annual East Side Amateur
by a shot over Annbriar's Mitchell Gregson (68-69-137)
and by two over Old Warson's Ross Millman (72-66-138) Sunday at Belk Park Golf Course
in Wood River, Ill.

Lundgren's 3-under 33 was highlighted by a chip in
for birdie at No. 9. "The chip in was pretty important," Lundgren said.

"That was a turning point because the wind really picked up when we made the
turn. From that point on, pars were really tough to make, so being able to
get to 8-under was big."

The 25-year-old old former Rollins College golfer balanced two birdies
with two bogeys on the closing nine to win his second MAGA
series event in 2008. In May, Lundgren won the Normandie Amateur.

Gregson (pictured at left),
a sophomore at Kansas State, got to
9-under thanks to an eagle at the par-5 and birdies at Nos. 9, 11 and 12.
But two late bogeys resulted in Gregson finishing second in the East
Side Amateur for a second straight year.

Three golfers - Fox Run's Matt Hines (72-67-139), Old Hickory's
Adam Long (67-72-139) and Persimmon Woods' Brian Kennedy
(66-73-139) tied for fourth.

With the victory Lundgren finds himself at the top
of the 2008 MAGA Player of the Year Point race going into the
Missouri State Amateur this week at WingHaven Country Club.

Scott Thomas and David Lucks tied for Low Senior at 1-under 143.
With this finish Thomas leads the 2008 MAGA Senior Player of the Year race.
