US AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING

Caravia; Cochran Qualify for APL

After a perfect day on Tuesday for Round 1 of the US Amateur Public Links Qualifying at Gateway National GL, Mother Nature played a not so kind hand for Round 2. The day began with a 2 hour and 10 minute delay to start and then looked like a good day was ahead. However just after 3pm the storms would come across the Mississippi and cause the rest of Round 2 go until dark.

Phil Caravia (Columbia, IL) and Nathan Hughes (Bartlesville, OK), 2010 US APL Qualifier here in St. Louis, would emerge as co-medalists shooting 1-under par 141. Playing together in the final group, the two knew exactly where each stood over what would amount to a 8 hour plus round. The third and final qualifier would be Tim Cochran (Des Peres, MO) who would finish round almost 3 hours earlier at 144.

The 2011 US Amateur Public Links Championship will take place June 27-July 2 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon.
