Delsing, Williamson look to secure 2009 spots on Tour
Veteran PGA Tour players Jay Delsing and Jay Williamson will be among more than 160 golfers seeking to secure a spot on the 2009 PGA Tour. The top 25 finishers this week at PGA West will receive status on the PGA Tour throughout 2009.
Others will receive status on the Nationwide Tour.
Williamson begins his task Wednesday morning at the PGA West's Nicklaus Tournament Course, playing alongside Jason Gore and James Driscoll. Delsing opens on the TPC Stadium Course with Canadian Dustin Risdon and Australian Andrew Bonhomme.
Delsing, who has 554 PGA Tour starts, has not played a full PGA Tour schedule since 2004. For the past four seasons, he has juggled a schedule of Nationwide and PGA Tour stops. He has two Nationwide Tour wins and a pair of seconds on the PGA Tour, earning nearly $4 million in the process.
Williamson has more than $5.5 million in career earnings, including one win on the Nationwide Tour and two runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour. In 2008, Williamson tied for first at the John Deere Classic, but lost to Kenny Perry in a playoff.
Other notable golfers in the field include: former PGA champion Mark Brooks, Paul Stankowski, Glen Day, Bob May, Chris Riley, Jason Day, John Huston, Notah Begay III, Carlos Franco, Frank Lickliter, Robert Gamez, Joe Durant and Ricky Barnes.
