ELIGIBILITY

Entries are open to the following:

Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by the Championship Committee.  The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.  The total field will be 132 applicants; 66 Amateurs with the lowest USGA GHIN Handicap Indexes and the first 66 Professionals to file an entry.  The Championship Committee reserves the right to accept entries from golf professionals from outside the Gateway Section PGA of America after June 4, 2008.  If either the Amateur or Professional quota is not met, the Committee will fill the remaining spots with either classification.  Exempt Amateurs need not meet the Handicap Index requirement.  The Championship Committee reserves the right to issue special exemptions.

ENTRIES:  Form, Fee, Closing Date

All players (including exempt players) shall apply on the attached form, copies are acceptable.

 

The entry fee shall be paid by every applicant, as follows:

Amateur                                           $150.00

Gateway PGA Professional          $250.00

All other golf professionals        $350.00

Entrant may file only (1) entry.  Entry fee will be refunded regardless of the reason if the Metropolitan Office is notified prior to the close of entries, June 25, 2008.  After the close of entries, entry fee will be refunded only after written proof to the Championship Committee of injury or illness and such written request for refund is made prior to July 2, 2008.  No refunds for any reason if written request is made on or after July 2, 2008.  Application and fees must reach the Association’s Office at the address listed on the entry form by 5:00 p.m., June 25, 2008.  (Entries by telephone, telegraph, email or fax are not acceptable.)

SCHEDULE

CHAMPIONSHIP: 54 holes at stroke play.

132 players are eligible, including exempt players.

THURSDAY, JULY 10

First Round, 18 Holes.

FRIDAY, JULY 11

Second Round, 18 Holes; Cut field to low forty (40) and ties.

SATURDAY, JULY 12

Final Round, 18 Holes.

 

Lowest scorer for 54 Holes will be Champion.  Any tie(s) will be decided by a four (4) hole play-off, which will be held immediately following play.  The Champion will be the player with the lowest aggregate score for the play-off.  In the event of a further tie, the Champion will be determined by a sudden death hole-by-hole play-off. 

PRIZES

Champion: Metropolitan Open Trophy for a period of one (1) year; Gold Medal

Runner-Up: Silver Medal

Low Amateur: Medal

 

NO OTHER REMUNERATION:  By this application, an amateur entrant certifies that he is not entitled to remuneration of any kind for participation in this Championship other that the aforementioned prizes.

 

Professionals will play for a cash purse; some Amateurs will be awarded gift certificates for their finish.  Cash disbursements and gift certificates will be at the discrection of the Championship Committee.

GOLF BALLS; DRIVER HEADS

Only brands of golf balls on the most current USGA List of Conforming Balls may be used. (List is available at www.usga.org)

The Optional Condition, as set forth in Appendix I of the USGA Rules of Golf, which places a limitation on golf balls used during a round (One-Ball Rule), shall be in effect.

Only Driver Heads on the most current USGA List of Conforming Driver Heads may be used. (List is available at www.usga.org)

 

PRACTICE PRIVILEGES

Practice privileges (one practice round) at CC of St. Albans are extended to players in the Championship, after the close of entries, at a time not disruptive to their member play.  Information on practice privileges will be sent to players after close of entries.

 

CADDIES; AUTOMOTIVE TRANSPORTATION

Championship: A player may provide his own caddie, provided the caddie is not a participant in the Championship, or a player may carry his own clubs.  Automotive transportation is permitted during the Championship for use by the Players, at their own expense.  

DISTANCE-MEASURING DEVICES
The Local Rule as prescribed in Appendix I of the USGA Rules of Golf shall be in effect. A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is DISQUALIFICATION, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

RULES OF GOLF

Play will be governed by the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf.  Questions shall be settled by the Championship Committee whose decision shall be final.

FOOTWEAR

CC of St. Albans is a spikeless facility.  Shoes with traditionally-designed spikes, comprised either partially or entirely of metal, are prohibitedPenalty for breach of this Condition:  DISQUALIFICATION.

TIME OF STARTING

The Optional Condition for Time of Starting, as set forth in Appendix I of the USGA Rules of Golf, shall be in effect.

 

REGISTRATION AT CC of ST. ALBANS

All players must be ready to play at their appropriate starting point and starting time, as published.

Exempt players who wish to participate in the Championship must fill a timely entry.

CONDITIONS, SCHEDULES

The Championship Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein.  The decision of the Championship Committee in any matter shall be final.

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

During all phases of the Championship, Competitors must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming.  The Championship Committee shall decide whether this requirement has been met and has authority to withdraw the entry of a Competitor who does not comply.  The wearing of Bermuda length shorts is permitted.

NOTICE CONCERNING AMATEUR STATUS

Participation by the Amateurs in this event is conditioned on Amateur Status.  The USGA Rules of Amateur Status shall apply.  The Championship Committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant for not having Amateur Status.  Disqualifying events include (i) competing for cash prizes in any amount and (ii) competing for merchandise prizes exceeding $750 in retail value.
