Final Four In Place for 2018 Old Warson Cup

On a picture perfect day at Old Warson Country Club, MAGA kicked off its championship season with the 2018 Old Warson Cup.  Two-time defending champion Sam Migdal looked to become the 2nd player in history to capture the three-peat, joining Skip Berkmeyer for that distinction who did so in 2007-09.  Migdal made it through the morning with a 2&1 victory over 2017 MAGA Senior Player of the Year Jeff Johnson, but got a hot Alex Ciaramitaro in the quarters.  Ciaramitaro would cruise in the morning to a 7&6 victory and take Migdal to 20 Holes before claiming the victory and move on to Sunday.

Jeremy Franklin is the lowest seed advancing to Sunday.  A 12 Seed coming in he would sneak past Chad Niezing 1up in the morning and get by Brad Carpenter 3&1 in the quarterfinals.  Franklin had it going in the afternoon, chipping in twice, including on the 17th Hole to close out the match.

2016 Amateur Champion Drew Pranger faced Chris Kovach in the Round of 16, a repeat for those two from the 1st Round in 2017.  Pranger would get by Kovach with a 3&2 victory today.  Pranger then faced SIU-Carbondale golfer Frankie Thomas in the quarters and after a long hard fought battle would advance with a 1up victory.

The last semifinal spot would go to 5-time Old Warson Cup champion Skip Berkmeyer.  Berkmeyer, the highest seed remaining at #3, would get by Tony Gumper in the morning in a 2&1 victory.  He would get Alex Cusumano in the quarterfinals and advance to another Old Warson Cup Sunday with a 7&6 win.  Berkmeyer looks to make it his 13th final Sunday afternoon.

The Semifinals matches will go at 7:00a and 7:10a in the morning with the Final Match to start approximately 11:45am.  For all of the Day 1’s results and Sunday’s pairing click here.
